How to Get There

Most people drive to Swakopmund from Windhoek – it takes about 4 -5 hours. There are also domestic flights from Windhoek and Cape Town on Air Namibia and from Johannesburg and Cape Town on South African Airways (these flights are Best Time to Visitoperated out of Walvis Bay, 34kms from Swakop). There are also several companies that offer chartered flights from various parts of the country.

Best Time to Visit

Summer (November to March) is the best time to enjoy all the adventure sports and the beach, but if you plan to go on Safari in Namibia, you should choose the cooler winter months, from May to October. Walking and hiking in the Namibian interior is very uncomfortable in summer due to the very high temperatures. Swakopmund and the Skeleton Coast are generally cooler all year round due to the cool sea breeze and can get cold in Winter (June to September), so be sure to bring a warm jacket.
