Tour Highlight
The Serengeti Wildebeest Migration is an extraordinary wildlife event and a life time experience for an animal lover. 1,5 million wildebeests around Serengeti searches for fresh water and nutritious grass. Following them are large numbers of zebras, different kinds of gazelles and …. hungry predator cats luring in the grass around them. The migration has been fairly investigated but still it is hard to foresee its exact movements since it is depending on when the rain comes. Our Serengeti Wildebeest Migration itinerary adjusts to the migration to make sure you come as close as possible to the animals. We can assure that you will have a great safari experience

It is one of the few places where the rare black rhino can be observed in their natural setting. As very few animals migrate in and out of the crater with its 2000 ft. high walls, you can expect to see lions, elephants, zebras, hippos, flamingos, jackals, rhinos, antelopes, many birds and other species. Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the wildebeest migration in December?
In December, the Great Migration moves into the southern plains of Serengeti National Park, especially around Ndutu and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. This is where the herds settle after moving south from the north. The landscape is green and full of fresh grass, which attracts thousands of wildebeest and zebras. It’s a beautiful time to witness large herds spread across open plains. The scenery feels alive and full of energy.
Is December a good time to see the migration?
Yes, December is a great time to experience a different phase of the migration. While it doesn’t include dramatic river crossings, it offers massive herds gathering in one area. The green season makes the environment lush and visually stunning. It’s also the beginning of the calving season, which adds a unique dimension to the experience. For many travelers, it’s a quieter and more peaceful time to visit.
What wildlife can I expect to see during this time?
During December, you’ll see large herds of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles across the plains. Predators like lions, cheetahs, and hyenas are also active, following the herds. As calving begins, there are more opportunities to see newborn animals. This also increases predator activity, making game drives more exciting. The combination of wildlife and green landscapes makes every moment special.
What kind of safari is best for following the migration in December?
A mobile or tented camp safari is one of the best ways to follow the migration during this time. These camps are often located close to where the herds are grazing. This means shorter travel times and more time watching wildlife. Game drives are usually flexible, allowing guides to track the movement of animals. It’s an immersive way to stay close to the action.
What should I pack for a December migration safari?
Packing for December means preparing for both sunshine and occasional rain. Bring lightweight clothing, a light rain jacket, and comfortable shoes for game drives. Neutral colors are best for blending into the environment. Essentials like sunscreen, insect repellent, and a good camera are very important. Being prepared for changing weather will help you enjoy the safari without any worries.
