14 Days Camping Safari and Zanzibar

Camping safari in Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro followed by Zanzibar is our prime itinerary – simply because it is the perfect combination for a Tanzania holiday.

Day 1: Arrival

You will be met at the airport by your driver/guide and our representative. We will take you to your hotel in Arusha for a free day of leisure, with your camping safari starting the next day.

Overnight at Ilboru Safari Lodge or African Tulip Hotel. Dinner included.

Day 2: Tarangire

The first leg of your camping safari is the drive to Tarangire, Tanzania’s fifth-largest national park and home to an incredibly large number of elephants. One intriguing aspect of the park is the majestic baobab trees, which dwarf the creatures that graze beneath them. Since the Tarangire River is the region’s only reliable source of water, animals congregate along its banks. This park is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including lions, leopards, cheetahs, and up to 6,000 elephants. Take a game drive in the park for the remainder of the day after arriving. Spend the night at a Tarangire public campground. Every meal is served.

Day 3: Lake Manyara

We leave for Lake Manyara after breakfast. Remarkably beautiful, the park is tucked away at the foot of the Great Rift Valley escarpment. Numerous game animals, including buffalo, elephants, giraffes, impalas, hippopotamuses, and more, are visible. Spend the night at a Lake Manyara public campsite. Every meal is served.

Day 4: Ngorongoro

You will be driven to the Ngorongoro Crater early in the morning. You will drive into the crater for a game drive on the crater floor after arriving at Ngorongoro. With its 2000-foot-high walls, the crater sees very few animals migrating in and out, so you can expect to see lions, elephants, zebras, hippos, flamingos, jackals, rhinos, antelopes, numerous birds, and other species. Spend the night at a Ngorongoro public campsite. Every meal is served.

Day 5: Serengeti

Proceeding to the Serengeti National Park will be your first stop after breakfast. We’ll have a packed picnic lunch. Once you have enjoyed a picnic lunch on a kopje (rocky outcropping) in the Serengeti, you will drive deeper into the park for an exciting game drive. Spend the evening at a Serengeti public campsite. Included are all meals.

Day 6: Serengeti

A full day of game-viewing in the Serengeti. Depending on the time of year and location of the vast migrating herds, you may observe large numbers of wildebeest, as well as big cats, hyenas, and other predators nearby, hunting for an easy meal. Elephants, giraffes, zebras, lions, monkeys, baboons, hippos, rhinos, antelopes, and numerous birds and other animal species may be seen all year. As in Ngorongoro, your safari driver/guide will communicate with other safari drives and will be as adept as ever in locating concealed wildlife. Overnight at a Serengeti public camping. All meals are provided.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a 14, day camping safari and Zanzibar trip include?

A 14, day adventure combines the thrill of a safari with the relaxation of a tropical beach escape. The first part usually takes you on a camping safari through parks like Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, and Tarangire National Park. You’ll enjoy daily game drives, bush dinners, and staying in well, equipped luxury tents. After the safari, you fly to Zanzibar for several days of sun, sand, and water activities. It’s a perfect combination of adventure and relaxation.

Is this trip suitable for families or couples?

Yes, it can be tailored for both families and couples depending on the activities and accommodation. Couples enjoy romantic nights in the bush and private beach experiences in Zanzibar. Families benefit from kid, friendly campsites and safe beaches with plenty of activities. Guides are experienced in making safaris engaging for all ages. It’s a flexible option that meets different needs while keeping everyone entertained.

What kind of wildlife can we see on this safari?

The safari portion is rich with Tanzania’s iconic animals. Expect to see elephants, lions, leopards, giraffes, zebras, and large herds of wildebeest. In the Ngorongoro Crater, animals are easier to spot in the enclosed landscape. Birdlife is abundant, and boat safaris may reveal hippos and crocodiles. Every day brings new surprises, making it exciting for both adults and children.

How is camping different from staying in lodges?

Camping immerses you in nature while still offering comfort with luxury tents. You sleep close to the wilderness, hear natural sounds at night, and enjoy open, air dining experiences. Unlike lodges, camps are often located in more remote areas, giving a more intimate safari experience. Despite being “in the wild,” many camps provide proper beds, hot showers, and excellent service. It’s the best way to feel connected to the environment without sacrificing comfort.

What should I pack for a 14, day camping safari and Zanzibar holiday?

You’ll need to pack for both safari and beach environments. Bring lightweight, neutral, colored clothing, a warm layer for mornings and evenings, and sturdy shoes for game drives. Essentials include sunscreen, hats, insect repellent, and swimwear for Zanzibar. For children or longer travel days, snacks and small entertainment items are useful. Don’t forget a camera or binoculars to capture wildlife and breathtaking landscapes.
