Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect on a Victoria Falls and Hwange National Park tour?

A tour combining Victoria Falls and Hwange National Park is a mix of awe-inspiring natural beauty and thrilling wildlife encounters. You’ll start with the Victoria Falls, exploring viewpoints, walking trails, and perhaps enjoying a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River. Then, you head to Hwange National Park for safari drives to see elephants, lions, buffalo, and a variety of other African wildlife. Lodges in Hwange often offer luxurious accommodations close to watering holes, giving you wildlife sightings right from your room. This combination is ideal for travelers who want both dramatic scenery and classic African safaris in one trip.

How many days do I need for this trip?

Most travelers spend about 5 to 7 days to comfortably enjoy both destinations. Two nights at Victoria Falls allows time to see the falls from different angles, explore the town, and try optional activities like helicopter flights or bungee jumping. The remaining days are best spent in Hwange, with morning and evening game drives maximizing wildlife viewing. Some itineraries include an extra day for relaxation or a cultural visit to local villages. This pacing ensures you experience both the adventure and the natural beauty without feeling rushed.

What wildlife can I expect to see in Hwange National Park?

Hwange is one of Zimbabwe’s largest and most wildlife rich parks, home to elephants, lions, leopards, wild dogs, and large herds of buffalo. Birdwatchers will also enjoy spotting over 400 species, including rare and colorful birds along the waterholes. Game drives are often scheduled for early mornings or late afternoons, when animals are most active and visible. Some lodges even have viewing decks overlooking natural watering holes where animals come to drink. Every safari outing offers unique sightings, so no two days are exactly the same.

When is the best time to visit Victoria Falls and Hwange?

The dry season, from May to October, is ideal for Hwange safaris because animals gather around water sources and are easier to spot. For Victoria Falls, the period from February to May gives the most dramatic flow and spectacular mist, though June to August offers clearer views and great weather. Shoulder seasons provide a balance between good wildlife viewing and impressive waterfalls. Visitors should consider what matters most abundant wildlife or the full power of the falls when planning their trip. Either way, both destinations are beautiful year round.

What kind of accommodation and experiences are included in this tour?

Tours usually include comfortable lodges or luxury tented camps near Hwange and Victoria Falls, often with meals included. In Hwange, you’ll enjoy guided safari drives, and sometimes walking safaris or night drives, depending on the lodge. At Victoria Falls, guided walks and optional adventure activities like white water rafting, bungee jumping, or helicopter flights are available. Many lodges offer serene settings, excellent service, and spectacular views of wildlife or rivers. This combination makes the trip feel both relaxing and exciting, with plenty of opportunities for memorable experiences.
